Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary 2015 River Rats - What a wonderful year!

The River Rats hosted a free summer science session on Wednesday, June 25th from 10:00 to 12:00. Due to the new bridge construction at Duck and Island Parks we met instead at the Alpena Public Schools Nature Area. Thirty children participated in learning about Incredible Insects! The young scientists took a hike to discover that insects live underwater, inside logs, and on top of leaves. They watched a puppet show about the ways insects adapt to their surroundings to avoid predators. The take home craft was a window screen bug made out of recycled materials. Children got to play games, such as, cockroach races, insect puzzle, and grasshopper hop!

The Wildlife Sanctuary Board would like to thank the ten adult and teen volunteers that helped to make this River Rats session a fun, hands-on learning experience for Alpena youth.
