Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary River Rats! Age 5-10

River Rats, named in honor of the River Rats who guided timbers down the river in early logging days, is a unique opportunity for children to learn about nature. Sponsored by the City of Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary Board, and the Thunder Bay River Center, River Rats is free to participants, and funded with grants and donations. Chairperson: Melissa Doubek 989-356-4371.

Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary 2016 River Rats - another wonderful year!

The River Rats hosted a free summer science session on Wednesday, June 22nd  from 10:00 to 12:00. About thirty children participated in the STEM activity. The young scientists learned about micro-plastics in our environment. They also watched a puppet show about the impacts of micro-plastics. The children got to play science-based games and participated in a take home craft activity.

The Wildlife Sanctuary Board would like to thank the ten adult and teen volunteers that helped to make this River Rats session a fun, hands-on learning experience for Alpena youth.
