I was born and raised in Alpena to Wes and Karen Nunneley. I have one brother, Tim, and one sister, Susan. I graduated from Alpena High in 1983 and Central Michigan University in 1988. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Marcy (Tremain) Nunneley, for 19 years; and we have three incredibly independent children; Ashley, age 18; Joshua, age 15; and Courtney, age 8. Finally, I have two nephews, Ryan and Mathew, and one niece, Macy, who refer to me as Uncle Mike.
Political Experience
Prior to my election in 2008 to the Alpena City Council, I served three terms as District 1 City of Alpena County Commissioner. During my last term as County Commissioner, I served as the Alpena County Chairman and chaired the Alpena County Finance and Personnel Committee. I have also served on the District 4 Health Department Board, Alpena County Planning Commission, Recreation Authority, Multi-Purpose Collaborative Board, 26th Circuit Court Management Board, Senior Citizen Liaison, FIA/Department of Human Services Board, Alpena Intergovernmental Council (AIC), AIC Communications, AIC Economic Development, AIC Planning, TARGET Alpena, TARGET Executive Committee, and the Alpena County Ambulance Committee. |
Work Experience
After growing up working in my parents' business, The Drug Store of Alpena, I pursued a sales position with Mt. Pleasant’s Fabiano Brothers; distributors of Anheuser Busch. I then accepted a position in Indian River with Alpena Huron Distributors as its facilities manager. Soon after the birth of both our families’ first grandchild, we returned to Alpena where we began Northern Exposure Photo and Photography by Michael. I spent nine years as a photography instructor at Alpena Community College, and I also taught for ACES Academy.
I currently serve as the Community Bank President at Alpena National City Banks where I specialize in Business Banking.
Interests
I live for watching my children’s activities; and I personally enjoy golf, hockey, hunting, fishing, photography, and writing.
I believe that Alpena represents all that makes Michigan a wonderful place. I’m forever grateful that “The Town that Wouldn’t Die” offers each and every one of us all of life’s treasures that prompt our big city brothers and sisters to drive four hours in
bumper-to-bumper traffic just to visit on a weekend. Without question, the best kept secret in Michigan is where we call home – Alpena.
