Heritage Riverwalk Project

The City of Alpena has been qualified to receive the Cool Cities Grant to improve our downtown area. The first project the City is undertaking is the Heritage Riverwalk Project which will connect all public and private developments along both shores of the Thunder Bay River, from South Riverfront Park to North Riverfront Park. This will involve new construction; site upgrades; installations of new amenities; and historic, interpretative signage that focuses upon the history and importance of the Thunder Bay River and Lake Huron on the community.

Cool Cities Community Survey

The local Cool Cities Advisory Committee needs your help! We think the Alpena Community is a wonderful place to live, work, and play; but we want your help in identifying why. 

The Cool Cities Advisory Committee is doing a community survey to help identify why you, the residents of the community, think Alpena is an awesome place to be. Our survey asks you to identify five reasons why you think Alpena is a cool community. These reasons could be a place or a structure within the community, activities you enjoy, the snow we get for Christmas, or anything else you love about Alpena. 

We are asking that all surveys be returned by July 30, 2004. Surveys can be returned to the Alpena County Library, the Jesse Besser Museum, Alpena City Hall, the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce or e-mailed to Eric Cline at ericcline@alpena.mi.us. Hard copies may also be picked up at the same locations. To e-mail Eric Cline, fill out the form and save it to the hard drive; then e-mail it as an attachment.

The survey results will be posted and will become part of our Cool Cities inventory. The results of this survey will help us to make Alpena the coolest of Michigan's Cool Cities!
